The Marine Engineering Class 6 and Class 5 is a significant stepping stone toward a worthwhile career as a seafarer. The Class 6 is a 45 credit certificate programme with an optional 45 credit endorsement in Marine Engineering Class 5. The optional endorsement recognises those that can apply their skill to advanced vessel systems including electrical and control systems. You need 200 hours of seatime on any powered vessel and a completed MEC6 MNZ Training Record Book to apply.
