ELECTIVE COURSES:
Weld steel in the downhand positions to a general purpose industry standard using the manual metal arc welding process 
Join metals using the torch brazing and soldering processes
Demonstrate knowledge of common engineering metals
Weld steel to a general purpose industry standard using gas metal and arc welding process
Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety when welding and thermal cutting

Applicants under 20 years of age:

- NCEA Level 2 (recommended), minimum 10 credits NCEA Level 1 in both literacy and numeracy;

- three years’ minimum secondary education.


Applicants over 20 years of age:

- successful completion of a programme of study at Level 2 or above in a related discipline; or

- employment in the related sector for one or more years.
