ABC College of English (category 1 provider) was established in 1994 in Queenstown, New Zealand’s premier holiday and ski resort, allowing students to study English in a beautiful and entertaining environment. ABC College is recognized as a 1st class English language tuition, with exceptional student services, professional staff (all experienced TEFL teachers), a well-performing learning environment and academic achievements. The campus provides a wide range of courses, from general English and IELTS, Cambridge Preparation to English, and different activities such as ski, snowboarding and golf.

Programmes

The name of ABC College reflects the range of English courses that they offer – A (Adventure English), B (Business English), and C (Communicative English). Every student can find the appropriate programme, from intensive General English and Examination Preparation courses, through to combined programmes of English language study with extreme adventures, skiing or snowboarding in winter (June - September).

Campus facilities and location

On the campus of ABC College, you will find modern facilities, small classes – maximum of 10 students per class (average of 6), a comfortable student lounge room with audio and visual systems, and student computers, self-access study facilities and a library. There is also a balcony, BBQ area and a garden, and a place to store equipment.

ABC College is located in the center of Queenstown, close to public transportation, café, banks, shops, and Wakatipu lake beach. Students can enjoy their studies with spectacular natural scenery around the campus, with plenty of activities and adventures, meeting friends and building relationships in relaxed and safe surroundings.

Queenstown is situated in the Southern Alps of the South Island, surrounded by amazing mountain scenery, clear blue rivers and lakes, and fresh alpine air. The town is also known for its active social life scene, offering world-class restaurants, bars and cafés, events center, movie theatre and the best of New Zealand made products. It is also rated as one of the lowest crime rate locations in New Zealand. 

Activities in Queenstown

Locals and internationals both enjoy the wide range of activities in Queenstown, in every season – Winter, summer and autumn festivals are always highlighted in the calendar. Queenstown is also known as “The Adventure Capital of the World”, offering an exciting variety of outdoor activities suitable for all ages, all year round – trekking, white water rafting, jetboating, ski, snowboarding, bungy jumping, mountain biking, luge, paraflying, horse riding, golf, wine tours and more. 

It is a great destination for students, who can arrive within 25 minutes of driving to The Remarkables, Cardrona, and an hour to Treble Cone ski areas. The town is also a gateway to the world-famous Milford Sound and the Fiordland National Park.

The population in the town is a diverse group of people relating to Queenstown as their home, and there is a high level of cultural awareness and welcome attitude to students from all around the world.  

Accommodation services

For students who are interested in accommodation services, ABC College assists in finding suitable accommodation for their needs and preferences. The first option is a Homestay – students can stay with personally selected families, chosen carefully by the ABC College, and experience living with an English-speaking family, at a comfortable home. This way, the students can practice their English language in everyday-life situations, taste local home-cooked meals, and enjoy a separate room in a typical house with gardens and lawns. The ABC College staff will monitor closely students who live in a Homestay arrangement, and eventually collect the student’s evaluation of the stay.  

Another option is private studio apartments for students, which are located 30 minutes walking distance of the campus. The studio facilities contain a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a double bed (including linen), wardrobe, kitchenette, coffee table, a couch, table and chairs, kitchen equipment and towels. There is a 40$ charge for the cleaning fee per stay.

There is also a wide range of accommodation options for budget hostels, bed & breakfast, serviced apartments and guest houses, through to luxury hotels.  

Among the facilities and services of ABC College, students can also find an activity desk, providing information and assistance with booking outdoor activities and adventures. In addition, there are native speakers counsellors to support the students during their studies and a free further education placement assistance, for students who wish to continue studying at a New Zealand secondary school, polytechnic or university

As a Category 1 provider, students at ABC College are entitled to work up to 20 hours per week while studying, if their programme lasts a least 14 weeks.

Recently, the ABC College formed new partnerships with Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS, established in 1990) and New Horizon College (Napier, established in 1988), to create more opportunities for students. These partnerships allow to easily move between education institutes and gain extensive experience and outcomes.
