English Language Academy

Each year more than 2,000 students from over 35 countries around the world choose to learn English at the University of Auckland’s English Language Academy (ELA). The ELA is the foremost university-operated language centre in New Zealand and has a proven track record for enhancing students’ success at the University of Auckland. Courses at the ELA are designed to develop language and learning skills and academic literacy to prepare students for success at the University of Auckland and future career. The ELA provides dedicated student services support, computing facilities equipped with learning technology, exciting social, sporting, and cultural activities. The Academy employs experienced teachers with degrees and TESOL qualifications, who are all dedicated to helping students reach their goals. The teachers use a communicative language teaching approach, where interaction and communication are the main aims of the study. Lessons involve active learning through pair and group work, in which teachers facilitate communication and provide students with every opportunity to practice their language skills.
