The University was founded in 1911 by the Parliament of Western Australia and started teaching in 1913. Nowadays, the University is a progressive and modern provider with over 1300 high-qualified staff in Perth and Albany. The University of Western Australia has excellence in teaching, learning, and research makes the University competitive in a wide range of study areas. Today, the University is ranked 139th in the World University Rankings (2021). The Group of Eight (a coalition of top research universities in Australia) includes UWA as a research-intensive university for undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. UWA's vision is to create the next generation of global leaders through experience-rich education and world-leading, trustworthy research. Notable alumni include former Prime Minister Bob Hawke, former Premier Colin Barnett, professor Barry Marshall and many current and past Federal Members of Parliament. The University is driving several subjects such as Architecture, Landscape, Visual Arts, Arts, Business, Education, Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, Law, Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Indigenous Studies, and Science. Apart from that, UWA is home to over 80 industry-based research centers and institutes (e.g., Institute of Agriculture, UWA Oceans Institute, etc.) in Western Australia and across the country.
The University consists of three campuses and various modern facilities for the community, including an extensive library with unique services and support for every academic journey stage.
Crawley Campus
Situated on the Swan River in Crawley, UWA is one of Australia's most picturesque campuses. At UWA, students are surrounded by leafy green spaces with open courtyards and plenty of room to study, catch up with friends or relax outdoors in Perth's moderate climate. The University serves the communities offering various outstanding art collections, theatre venues, sporting, and social clubs. Besides, the campus is a whole village with an exciting, vibrant atmosphere, including cafes, bookshops, banking, child care, medical center, etc.
UWA Claremont
This campus is close to Crawley and provides foundation courses for international students based on Taylor's College. UWA Claremont is home to The Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB), Confucius Institute, Centre for the Muslim States and Societies, International Skills and Training Institute in Health, Centre for English Language Teaching.
UWA Albany
UWA Albany is a regional campus in the south-coast town of Albany. UWA Albany offers a diverse range of the friendly and close-knit UWA Albany community including UWA Albany Centre, Centre of Excellence in Natural Resource Management, Rural Clinical School (Albany), The Curtin University of Technology.
