Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) was founded in 1924. It is a governmental institution based in the Waikato region. Wintec’s stated mission is to build stronger communities through education, research and career development. Within almost 100 years' experience, the institute provides high-quality programmes that meet the needs of local industries, which include health care, education, retail, manufacturing and agriculture. A practical industry placement is a part of most of the Wintec programmes, so, students have access to hands-on training within a course of study, which makes them industry-ready upon graduation.
Wintec has campuses in the centre of Hamilton close to the Waikato River and Lake Rotorua, on the Akoranga Road about 10 minutes drive from the centre and at the beautiful Hamilton Gardens for those, who want to study landscape design and horticulture. The institute provides tours with a general overview of the campus layout and the main locations such as study spaces, support services, library and others.
Wintec offers three accommodation options for students.
Student Village has several villa-styled units. Each unit has five fully-furnished single bedrooms. Kitchenette, showers and toilet facilities are shared between tenants of a unit. Thу Student Village is a great choice for first-year students as it is staffed to provide students with a safe and comfortable living environment. Social activities are often organised by Wintec staff and students.
If you want to live in the city centre, then Wintec Apartments will be the right choice! Here, mature and international students live together in a modern and safe environment. Every single bedroom is furnished with a desk, king single bed, wardrobe and chairs. The Wintec Apartments offer an experience similar to flatting.
Rotokauri Eco Village provides semi-furnished four-bedroom units for adult students. The units have everything you need for comfortable living, including washers and dryers, televisions, heat pumps and access to Wi-Fi.
Teaching staff at Wintec are highly-qualified and knowledgable in their subject area and engaged in professional development and research. All students are supported well throughout their studies. They are also regularly provided with opportunities to give feedback on all aspects of their experience.
The Waikato Institute of Technology offers over 130 different degrees, certificates and diplomas as well as short courses across a variety of fields. There are plenty of postgraduate qualifications, including master's degrees, that will help current professionals and practitioners upgrade their skills and improve knowledge in a chosen area.
